school ethos

The ethos of our school is Catholic and Christian.  It is based on the Christian philosophy of society in Ireland. We have our set of values that tell us that each pupil is created in God’s image, that he/she has a life to lead to the best of his/her ability and a soul to be saved.  We believe that all children are equal in God’s eyes and each is entitled to an equal chance of obtaining optimum personal fulfilment.  We equally recognise and respect the diversity of beliefs, values and aspirations of all religious, ethnic and cultural groups in our community.

Our school will be a very important agent along with the home, the Church and the community in the development of each child.  Every effort will be made to ensure that the child’s all-round development is healthy and harmonious.

School Uniform

The school uniform consists of a crested royal blue jumper/cardigan, navy trousers/slacks/pinafore and blue collared shirt or blouse.  The children are encouraged to wear this uniform on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week. The children are encouraged to keep their uniform clean and tidy. Children are asked to wear a navy tie for special occasions and school photographs.  Allowances are made when uniforms become wet or dirty and the children have to wear other clothes on these days.

Communication

  • Class teachers are available by prior appointment, to discuss any aspect of your child’s education.  By contacting the school first and making an appointment outside of teaching time, you will afford all concerned a better opportunity to discuss relevant matters.  All matters of concern, regarding a child’s performance or behaviour in school should be discussed in the first instance with the class teacher.

  • School newsletters with information on school closures, tours etc are issued regularly and given to the oldest or only family member in the school.  A text messaging service is used for quick updates, newsletter notifications and urgent messages.  Our school website also contains up to date information.

  • Report cards are issued yearly using the DES template. They contain a range of information on your child’s progress.

  • In the case of Junior Infants, it is advisable to have a quick word in the morning with the class teacher, if any issues arise.

  • It is very important that we have up to date contact phone numbers for parents in the case of accident or injury.  If a parent is unavailable, we also need a backup contact number e.g. a local crèche or grandparent, who will be readily available to bring home a sick child if necessary.  (See enrolment form).

  • In October, formal Parent-Teacher meetings take place and other meetings may be arranged, by mutual agreement, at any time of the year.  Communication between school and home is of vital importance, especially when dealing with important issues relating to your child’s education.
